The Paris Motor Show saw Porsche unveil the four wheel drive version of their 911 Carrera and even BMW had something from the same department.

So, if 4×4 is what people want, they’re bound to love this option as it’s one of the cheapest way of getting all wheels driven.

It is, of course, the Fiat Panda. James May’s personal runabout just went 2013 recently and it’s now prepped to go a little bit off-road.

The Panda gets permanent four wheel drive, two differentials and Electronic Stability Control as standard.

We should mention though that the diffs do use electronic coupling, so it’s not the most impressive type of all wheel drive system out there.

For the very low pricing Fiat charge, even for the top end Panda, we’ll let that detail slide. After all, the first version of the Panda didn’t exactly worry the Dakkar racers.

Now that it gets in line with the newest of Panda ranges, the small Fiat also gets the somewhat interesting 0.9 liter TwinAir Turbo petrol two cylinder engine.

The 85 horsepower it develops and its fuel economy levels sound great on paper but in the real world, it would be a brilliant choice to opt for the 1.3 liter MultiJet diesel.

This only has 75 horsepower but the considerably increased torque feels much better. Fiat is ready to help you out as they want you to make the best of your Panda 4×4.

It comes with a six speed manual gearbox regardless of the engine and this is crucial because the first gear is actually a low range one.
