Ford decided to manufacture the last Mercury Grand Marquis

Mercury, the brand founded by Ford in 1939 having the headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan, U.S and being sold mostly in Canada and U.S. will disappear from the automotive landscape this year. Just few days ago, the last model bearing the Mercury badge, Grand Marquis, left the Saint Thomas gates plant in Canada.

The Americans from Ford decided to end here the journey of the Mercury brand, a journey of about 72 years. Ford claims that new priorities have been set, more exactly they are focusing on the Ford and Lincoln brands developing process and can’t take care furthermore of Mercury.

Regarding the sales figures, Ford managed to sell about 93,000 Mercury vehicles, quite disappointing if we compare the last year with the 1978 when the American manufacturer managed to sell about 580,000 units bearing the Mercury logo. Mercury brand has been founded by Edsel Ford, the son of Henry Ford, the man who founded the better known Ford Motor Company in 1903.
