Ford officially announces that the new Fusion sedan enters production at the Flat Rock plant in Michigan. The American company used to build the Mustang and Mazda6 but since the latter just rolled off the assembly line, there’s room for a new model.

Building the new Ford Fusion in the States is a first for the American carmaker. The company plans to build 450,000 units per year, alongside the Hermosillo plant in Mexico.

The Flat Rock plant received a new flexible body shop worth of a $555 million investment. An extra 1,400 workers were needed in order to kick off the sedan’s production.
