Mazda3 & Mazda6 Reportedly Coming with 2.5 L Turbocharged Mill

The Japanese carmaker Mazda has big plans for its all-new Mazda3 and Mazda6, both models reportedly coming with turbocharged configuration for their 2.5-liter naturally aspirated.

As a reminder, the current Mazda3 and Mazda6 are using a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated, which develops 184 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque, hooked to a six-speed manual or optional six-speed automatic transmission.

This might change in the near future, as the carmaker is reportedly planning a turbocharged configuration for the same 2.5-liter engine. The same one is already planned for the all-new 2017 Mazda CX-9.

With the new power configuration, the cars` power would be raised to 227 horsepower and 420 Nm of torque.
Dave Coleman, engineer at Mazda North America, also commented on the situation:

“It fits in the same package as the diesel fits in, and the same package that the naturally-aspirated 2.5-liter fits in. Basically, that big space we used for the bundle of snakes exhaust manifold, the turbo is in that space too. They’re all packaged to occupy the same space.”

However, the report does not mention when the new modifications will take place. We should be able to find out more about the carmaker`s plans in the near future. Meanwhile, stay tuned for our latest auto posts!
