The unveiling of the new 2011 Seat Alhambra took place today and we have to report that there are no surprises, it’s almost entirely a Volkswagen Sharan.

We know these cars share platform, but can’t they come with more differences other than the obvious?

In truth, the only differences that can be spotted between the Sharan and the Alhambra are the headlights, a slightly redesigned front end, the tail lights and a set of different badges on them. The interior job is the same thing, apart from the steering wheel boasting a different logo there’s nothing new.

The differences only appear when comparing to the old model of the Seat Alhambra as the new one is bigger, 220 extra millimeters bringing the total to 4.85 meters in length and there’s an extra 90 millimeters in width.  Another big difference from the previous model is that if you get the seven seat option you will no longer have to remove them when you need a lot of boot space as they will just fold into the floor. And speaking about the boot space there’s 885 liters of it in normal form or if you really want to go to town and only use two seats you can get up to 2.297 liters of storage space in the back of the new Seat Alhambra.

Underneath the different skin (to the previous version of course), there are a few new engines available. You can go with TSI petrol where you’ll find 150 or 200 horsepower or TDI diesel units which provide 140 and 170 horsepower. All versions will be equipped with fuel injection and turbocharging with the addition of systems such as Start-Stop and brake energy recovery technology.
