Sticking with a short list, the king of luxury SUVs will be getting a new V8 diesel engine, a new 8-speed transmission and two significant Terrain Response upgrades.

Phil Popham, Land Rover Managing Director, the man who actually presented the media with these changes made a statement in which he accentuated that with luxury and performance in mind and with the new updates the Range Rover will be able to achieve an industry benchmark in CO2 emissions while, for the first time in it’s history, being able to return more than 30 mpg.

Most of these benefits come from the new engine and gearbox. The new engine is a 4.4 liter V8 diesel with with parallel sequential turbocharging, is bespoke to the Range Rover and replaces the 3.6 liter LR-TDV8. The new 8-speed automatic transmission is the first 8-speed gearbox ever fitted to a Ranger Rover and features closer ratios for an improved level of comfort, Transmission Idle Control (TIC) and a wider ratio spread to improve efficiency with a return of 18.5 percent improvement in fuel consumption as the combined cycle now registers 25 mpg.

Put the two together and the 308 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque will enable you to get from 0 to 60 in 7.5 seconds and to keep going until you reach a top speed of 130 mph.

Gradient Acceleration Control and Hill Start Assist are the upgrades done to the Terrain Response system.
