US: 2017 Porsche 718 Cayman Launched with Flat-Four Mills

As you all probably know, last year, the German based Porsche carmaker announced a series of important changes to its entire line-up, especially with the all-new Boxster and Cayman, which received the 718 badge along with an interesting engine lineup switch from the conventional naturally aspirated flat-six to new bi-turbo engines.

Following the official introduction of the 2017 Porsche 718 Boxster at the beginning of the year, the carmaker has also introduced its fixed-roof sibling, the 718 Cayman, the model coming with a wide range of turbocharged four-cylinder engines.

We are dealing here with the 2.0-liter flat-four found in the entry-level, the unit developing 300 horsepower and 380 Nm of torque (280 lb-ft of torque). Performance wise, the engine is hooked to a PDK transmission and the Sport Chrono Package, allowing a sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in a good 4.7 seconds. The topping stands at 275 km/h (170 mph).

On the other hand, the S version follows with a higher 2.5-liter mill, churning out 350 horsepower and 420 Nm of torque (257 kW). The engine comes with the same PDK and Sport Chrono Package, with the whole 100 km/h being set at 4.2 seconds. This top speed is set at 285 km/h (177 mph).

From a mechanical point of view, both versions are equipped with updated springs and stabilizers, adding the retuned shock absorbers, or retuned steering wheel for improved handling characteristics.

The cabin boasts with the latest technology, such as standard Porsche Communication Management as standard, as well as other optional features like Connect Module with Porsche Car Connect, Apple CarPlay, USB port, navigation module with voice control or real-time traffic information.

The 2017 Porsche 718 Cayman will be available at the US dealerships all across the country starting November, with the base variant to cost $53,900 MSRP while the S version will set you back at a higher $66,300. The price tags do not include the $1,050 destination fee.
