Volkswagen decided to introduce the new eco Up!, a more frugal version of the popular city car.

The new model is able to run on biomethane and natural gas which improves the fuel economy and emissions. Under the hood we find a 1.0-liter three-cylinder unit delivering 68 horsepower and 90Nm of torque.

Of course, the performance figures are not impressive as the model does the 0-100 km/h sprint in 16,3 seconds hitting a top speed of 164 km/h.

The strong point is the fuel economy as the company claims that with only 2,9kg of gas you can drive for 100 km with CO2 emissions of 79 g/km. If you need a better driving range, there is a second tank which can be used for petrol and improves the range to 500 kilometers.

“This fuel efficiency leads to very low fuel costs: in Germany, the mentioned 100 km cost just over 3 euros in an eco up! that is available as a two-door or four-door,” adds the carmaker.
