Volkswagen officially reveals 2012 Beetle pricing for the US

Shortly after the UK division of Volkswagen Group released the pricing for the fuel-efficient Passat BlueMotion designed for the local market, the Germans announced the US pricing for the 2012 Volkswagen Beetle, the small but still funny frog. In terms of styling, the German model features a new set of 17-inch alloy wheels, an eight-speaker audio system and a new leather steering wheel.

These are the standard features of the entry-level version while the top of the range gets a rear spoiler placed on the trunk, bi-xenon headlights with LED daytime running lights, new 19-inch alloy wheels alongside higher quality materials inside, Slide and Tilt panoramic roof, Keyless Access with push-button start and Bluetooth and iPod connectivity.

Talking about the engine range, the first unit which is the entry-level version of the new Volkswagen Beetle is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine able to deliver 170 horsepower and 240 Nm of torque. Coupled to a five-speed manual transmission, the model delivers a fuel consumption improved by up to 10% which means an estimated average 8.8 liters/100 km (26,5 mpg). The starting MSRP of the entry-level variant is $18,995 without the $770 destination charge.

If you are looking for increased performance, the 2.0-liter TSI unit might be the answer as it develops 200 horsepower and 280 Nm of torque. Available either with a six-speed manual or DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission, the estimated fuel consumption spins around 9 liters/100 km. Of course, the increased performance comes at a higher price, the starting MSRP being set at $23,395.

Somewhere in the end of the press release, the Germans from Volkswagen announce us that later next year, a new 2.0-liter turbocharged TDI Clean Diesel will enter the range, a model able to deliver 140 horsepower and 320 Nm of torque together with a fuel economy of 5.8 liters/100 km. The new Volkswagen Beetle will come together with a 3-year/36,000-mile scheduled Carefree Maintenance Program while a new safety system developed by the Germans will ensure the optimum safety.
