Ford’s recent blow in the fuel economy sector thanks to Consumer Reports taking serious analysis of their C-Max and Fusion fuel economy results.

We’re not very sure on what’s going on with the MPV but the Fusion sedan, as a true star in their lineup, seems to worry the Blue Oval more.

They’re actually announcing that they want to check in with the EPA on exactly what’s happening with their testing and the results achieved.

The fact that Ford are very interested in this procedure speaks oodles of their interest in the fuel efficiency matter.

It could, as I said earlier, be the fact that Fusion is an important product for them, since it’s a global product, but there’s something else.

Even if their Fusion hybrid gets downrated, Ford simply want to properly understand the way the EPA tests fuel efficiency now.

Knowing this could serve them enormously when it comes to properly marketing their future big thing in terms of fuel economy.

If their 2015 Ford F-150 is to really make the splash they desire, it should be with proper EPA certification on the numbers they publish.

Joe Hinrichs, chief of Ford’s operations in North and South America, is the one who brought the news to the public, so he likely understands the bigger picture.

Apart from sharing the fact that Ford are talking with the EPA about the fuel economy issue, he’s also made it clear that Ford have no plans to ask for special treatment or new testing methods.
