If we’re sticking to the simpler stuff, there’s word going round on how the VW Golf plugin hybrid will be ready for the U.S. market as early as next year.
That’s exciting stuff (for somebody eating veggies as we speak) but it’s just halfway there when considering that Volkswagen has bigger plans for their iconic hatchback.
We’re not yet very sure on how or when Volkswagen plans to introduce the newest version of the Golf but we do know that its lineup will include an electric version.
Innovatively called the E-Golf, it should begin testing on North American soil as early as 2013. A test fleet of some 20 prototypes of that car will participate in the program.
The testing schedule will take the best part of nine months but none of the Volkswagen E-Golf units will be given to members of the public.
Only special employees of the company will have a chance to use the E-Golf as a daily driver.
At the end of the scheduled time, they’ll be announcing how they got along with 93 miles of range an the rest of the car.
