Upcoming Mercedes-Benz SL Will Come on AMG GT`s New Platform

Mercedes-Benz is reportedly working on a new model which is set to be aside other new models within the class, meaning that it will stand on a completely new architecture seen only on AMG models.

We are looking here at the upcoming Mercedes-Benz SL which is reportedly coming on the AMG GT`s new architecture, meaning new and much more lightweight materials, that will increase the car`s performance and handling and will bring it closer to the AMG lineup.

According to a recent report issued by Autocar, this particular version will also come with a transaxle transmission at the rear, which will allow a much more high-performance weight distribution.

Visually, the model will come with advanced aerodynamics, highlighted by the new A-pillar as well as a wide array of aluminum and carbon fiber components. Also, the model will feature a fabric soft-top roof.

Once it will arrive on the market somewhere in 2019, the new Mercedes-Benz SL is also likely to be equipped with a whole range of new mechanics, including the Air Body Control as well as the aluminum double wishbone suspension system, also used on the AMG GT.

As far as the engine lineup goes, the all-new Mercedes-Benz SL is also reported to come with the same V12 options, adding some upgrade versions of the present V8, in the shape of the 4.0-liter twin-turbo engine.

Another important mill would be the new six-cylinder inline engine in the M256, with a 48V electrical system with integrated generator, allowing a total of 300 kW. Also, the carmaker will add the new 4.0-liter twin-turbo M176 engine, with 350 kW, the same one underpinning the updated S-Class.
