Fisker raises several millions of dollars, even before any deliveries

Fisker is clearly a company that knows luxury despite their startup status so knowing how to get hold of money is certainly no mystery to them.

Their latest announcement however is totally surprising, especially since we haven’t heard a peep out of them since they told us about making a business plan for a new lineup and the production start on the Karma.

There was a price tag attributed to the Karma and some customers actually had to lay down a deposit simply to get round to having their names on the list despite years away launch.

Somehow, despite a relatively unimpressive situation in the management department and a rather boring story, the company has now secured several hundred millions of dollars for future endeavors.

Fisker is raising the new funds courtesy of some secret investors. Fisker didn’t release their names but if they’re the sort of crowd who can put 100 million dollars down, they must know something about money.

We know Fisker now has the money but there’s no telling what they will be doing with it. And just in case you were thinking the money coming to Fisker may fall through as it did for Saab, let me clarify just how we got the information in the first place.

Fisker only released the information because filing this sort of money implies a bit of a public affair with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

The company now has quite the kitty because this 100 million dollars goes to the same location as the $190 million financing Fisker got back in March.

Since the entire financing and money part is handled, the company of the designer who gave us the Aston Martin DB9 and especially the Volante version, Henrik Fisker can now focus on the product.

Speaking of which, the Fisker Karma plugin hybrid will eventually have to make some money on its own. This part you’ll be glad to hear will easily be covered by the time it reaches full production.

The production of the Fisker Karma is at the moment limited to a point where it just provides the 3000 units ordered by customers who already had a deposit down.

It is only once those deliveries get taken care of that Fisker can turn the plant they have courtesy of ValmetAutomotive Oy in Uusikaupunki, Finland and get round to making the Karma on a proper scale.

Until then, we’ll remain in the dark about everything Fisker does with both production and finances. Who knows, perhaps another official inquiry will give us some new information before the regular 2012 Fisker Karma actually hits the streets.
