A new all-electric C-segment SUV will be developed by the German automaker, Opel, in collaboration with the Chinese firm Leapmotor. Russelsheim will be responsible for the design and creation, while Spain will host the assembly.
Some whispers have been circulating recently that Stellantis and Leapmotor are well into the planning stages of a new electric Opel vehicle. All of a sudden, these whispers have been confirmed.
The German automaker and the Chinese firm Leapmotor have recently announced the formation of a business alliance. An all-new C-segment electric SUV is going to be born out of this collaboration.
Starting in 2028, Opel will begin mass-producing the new vehicle to go along with its existing lineup of SUVs, which includes the Grandland, Frontera, and Mokka.
Company officials claim that they were able to cut the new model’s development time in half because to their collaboration with Leapmotor. The electrical infrastructure and, naturally, the batteries will be supplied by the Chinese. All of the exterior and interior designs, in addition to the chassis engineering, will be Opel-signed.
According to reports, Opel’s new electric C-segment SUV will be developed and manufactured in Rüsselsheim, while assembly will be carried out at the facility in Zaragoza, Spain.
“Our new SUV was designed and created by Opel in Rüsselsheim and developed by our teams in Germany and China.”
“We were able to cut the development time by over two years thanks to our relationship with Leapmotor. As a result, Opel will advance in its pursuit of providing consumers with appealing, reasonably priced, and cutting-edge electric vehicles,” stated Florian Huettl, CEO of Opel.
