Lexus rumor says GS could receive a V10 engine

Lexus’ lineup isn’t exactly overfilling with exciting models but it seems that there’s a good chance at that being changed soon as we’ve been hearing from the company’s chief engineer.

That would be Mr Yoshihiko Kanamori and his latest statement has all the making of a very exciting vehicle since it could be an actual BMW M5 killer.

With Lexus’ IS-F blowing on the back of the M3 with a small amount of success, why not fight its bigger brother? Makes sense to sharpen up the GS but how?

According to Kanamori, it could happen as the Lexus GS gets a new and very fast engine to start with. Lexus isn’t the sort of company that has high performance engines lying around so they’d have to make quite the effort.

Apparently, the Japanese are able to fit the 4.8 liter V10 engine Lexus put in the LF-A, thus developing 553 horsepower and 353 lb-ft of torque, a similar amount to what’s in the 2012 BMW M5.

While the engine bay can accommodate the big V10, Lexus isn’t about to jump at the opportunity to fit it there. As if this wasn’t rumored enough there’s word on how they might even make it a hybrid.

Either of these options has a decent chance of happening but Lexus’ chief engineer did state that the Japanese company has no actual plans to do so.
