There’s a rivalry between the German car makers the likes of nothing we’ve ever seen. The last time the country saw this much warfare, the Spitfire was up and running.
Mercedes’ newest creation, the CLS Shooting Brake may have the carrying capacity of a Heinkel He 111 but it has the pace of the Messerschmitt Me 262 in C63 AMG form.
Unfortunately for the Americans that are allegedly interested in this new car, it’s not going to be available to them.
It has been quite some time since the United States market has had a love affair with the estate car’s body shape but there’s a bit of a mourning ceremony held over this situation.
For some reason however, the American journalist seems to think there’s actually a mistake in Mercedes’ market study and that plenty of people want to buy one.
We suspect they’ve been taken in by the thrill of that stunning 5.5 liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine with its 525 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque available on tap.
The slightly more powerful version with even more grunt can also be blamed but the truth is, stateside buyers will have to be pleased with the E Class estate.
Maybe there’s still hope for the family man who has a soft spot for Mercedes estates if AMG ever decide to produce another E63 that they will shift over the Atlantic.
Meanwhile, Europeans will get their fill of CLS Shooting Brake models and probably opt to have them with diesel engines.
