Just because Porsche’s engineers have been hard at work on rolling out the new 2012 911 and sketching out their future Ferrari beater doesn’t mean the company was overwhelmed.

Their most important product for racing fans, the 911 GT3 R just got a bit of a facelift for the 2012 model year and it just grew a little more powerful and with better handling on the table.

While it’s no big news to see a new Porsche that’s better than the one that came before, it’s starting to get really amazing to see what the Germans can do with the 911 these days.

After we saw the last few versions we were starting to wonder if the rear-engined racer can still be taken to a new level and it seems like it can.

Using the same sort of engineering refining process as before, Porsche worked with the 4.0 liter six-cylinder engine to a tune of 500 horsepower, 20 more than before.

The added power is allegedly teamed with some new anti-roll bars and a shorter ratio six-speed sequential transmission which makes for added control of the 2012 911 GT3 R during cornering and while accelerating out from them.

Now let’s not get ahead of ourselves, this is still a race car so it’s only going to be sold in a version that has no number plates on it.

The new one costs a total of $433.000 or you can upgrade the 2010-2011 to a 2012 Porsche 911 GT3 R for somewhere in the region of 61.000 dollars as well.
